Morton Downey Jr. Documentary

June 5, 2013

I remember when Morton Downey Jr. exploded on the scene with his TV show that aired in New York on Channel 9.

He was a loud, obnoxious, foul mouthed, bigoted, reactionary rightwing skunk.

The show was insulting and revolting.

I watched it all the time.

There was nothing quite like it on television back then.

Despite the awful, repugnant politics he represented, the show was truly entertaining and dare I say, compelling.

At least it was to my young, developing mind.

The bright side to all of this is that Morton Downey Jr.’s meteoric rise to fame ended for him and his tv show just as quickly.

Al Jazeera Coming to 40 Million US Homes

The right-wing attacks and fear mongering are in full swing but the day has finally arrived.

A cable news network broadcasting in the US whose news coverage and analysis will offer a different perspective that will not serve as a mouthpiece for the US government.

Will America survive?

White Teens Murder Black Man in Mississippi

August 9, 2011

A group of white teenagers targeted and beat a black man in Jackson, Mississippi and then decided to run him over with their car.

This barbarity was caught on video.

As the news commentators state in the video if the race of the victim was white and the murderers were people of color this vicious killing would be a major news story in the United States.

But that is not the case so therefore it isn’t a major news story.

The First 10 Minutes of MTV

August 3, 2011

It was 30 years ago this week that MTV was launched.

For those that were alive back then and experienced it……Remember how awesome MTV was?

Remember sitting in front of the television for hours and hours watching music videos?

Remember how exciting it was?

Even music that you didn’t like.

There was alot of that too but it didn’t matter.

MTV started a revolution that completely changed the way people consumed and thought of music.

It was amazing and brilliant…….while it lasted.

Al Jazeera English Launches In New York City

August 1, 2011

This is really great news.

Al Jazeera English will easily standout in the US media market for the quality of its reporting of world events especially in the middle east. The channel also has many interesting talk shows. I really like Riz Khan’s One on One show.

I’ve been watching the channel online for the last few years and one of its strengths is that it presents a completely different perspective & analysis on world affairs than the US corporate media.

It will not be a mouthpiece of the US government nor have on its programs the same, old, pundits that appear on CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, etc….

I think once Aljazeera English builds up an audience of US viewers it will begin to attract high ratings and become a powerful & influential news network in the US.

It is a much needed alternative in the US mainstream media.

Al Jazeera English Launches In New York City

NEW YORK — Six months after New York City news junkies flocked to Al Jazeera English’s website for up-to-the-second coverage of the Egyptian uprising, they’ll now have a chance to watch the 24-hour news network on its original platform: television.

At midnight, Al Jazeera English launched in New York City on Time Warner Cable, a major step in the network’s goal of expanding further into the U.S. cable market and a chance to reach two million households in a world capital of culture and commerce. The network will also launch on Verizon FiOS in the coming days.
