Latin Grammy nod for Andy Montanez after 45-year career
BY MARGARITA DIAZ
Daddy Yankee calls him el viejito (the old man), but Andy Montanez feels as young as ever.
Forty-five years after starting his singing career in his native Puerto Rico, this old-time sonero is basking in a Latin Grammy nomination in the Best Salsa Album category.
It is Montanez’s third Grammy nod in the last two years, including one win last year for Best Traditional Tropical Album for “AM/PM,” his collaboration with Cuban nueva trova legend Pablo Milanes.
